Obtain all of the information you can about the cars involved in the
accident and their drivers. If the policearrive on the scene they will often collect this information for you. Even if you are passenger be sure to
collect thisinformation. Do not a ssume that only the owners of the vehicles or the drivers have a
responsibility in this regard
If you believe you have been injured get examined by a qualified
medical doctor.
In the event of a seriousinjury this examination will generally occur at a hospital emergency room. Follow up with your personal
doctor as soon as possible.
Contact your insurance agent and ask them to provide you with a
“coverage selection sheet” outlining theinsurance coverages you have provided on your own vehicle.
Contact your insurance carrier to put them on notice of the
accident and explain to them how the accidentoccurred.
Have someone take photographs of the damage to your car and the
other car (if you can get access to it)with a good quality 35mm camera. Take close-ups and far away shots of the damage. Also take
photographs of any visible injury to yourself or your passenger(s).
Do not engage in extensive discussion with the other driver’s
insurance company or their investigators.They may not take down a full and complete statement and are primarily looking for reasons to deny or
minimize your claim. You will not know about the nature and extent of your injuries until you are examined
by qualified medical doctors.
